THE Best French Toast
I'm not joking, this is THE BEST French toast recipe ever. I'm typically more of a savory breakfast person, but Ryan wanted to make French toast, so here we are. It's been years since I've eaten French toast, so I decided that if we were going to make French toast, it was going to be the best dang French toast we'd ever had.
The secret? Spices. It's easy to make a basic French toast, but this recipe uses toasted coconut almond milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg. This combination of flavors gives a depth to the French toast that's out of this world. Top your French toast with fresh berries and add a side of bacon and your morning is set.
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 1 loaf
Ingredients:
1 egg
2 tbs butter, melted
3/4 cup toasted coconut almond milk (or vanilla)
2 tbs vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp nutmeg

1/4 tsp salt
1 loaf brioche
For topping: fresh berries, syrup, powdered sugar, and bacon on the side

1/3 cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 loaf brioche

Instructions:
- Whisk together the egg, melted butter, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar and salt. Whisk until fully combined.
- Slowly add in the flour until incorporated.
- Preheat a non-stick pan over medium heat. While the pan is heating, soak your first slice of bread for 15-20 seconds per side.
- Once the pan is preheated, add your first slice of bread and cook for about 90 seconds or until golden brown. Flip and cook for an additional 60-90 seconds.
- Continue this sequence until you have the desired number of toast slices.
- Stack and top your toast slices with your desired toppings and enjoy!
It helps to use a whisk when mixing together the ingredients, but you could also use a fork if you don't have one! Make sure everything gets fully incorporated without any lumps. Who wants lumpy french toast?? Not me!
Make sure you get a good soak on your bread. I let mine drip into the bowl for a few seconds before transferring it to my pan, but you don't want to lose a lot of the mix in the process. I'd rather have a tasty french toast that has a little extra mix on the side than a mediocre french toast without it.
And how good does that look? I loved the combination of berries and bacon paired with the toast. The berries brought a nice pop of acidity and the bacon, well salt of course. It was the perfect combination to pair with the sweet and toasty cinnamon and coconut flavors of the french toast.
This was quite the breakfast. But I can tell you one thing - we're definitely going to be making this again sometime soon. I mean, just look at it! How can you resist?
