Elephante
We're having an All-American food Memorial Day Weekend and absolutely loving it. When we found out our favorite bar was offering a sausage & pepper special, we were 100% sold. For $65, you get 8 Italian sausages, buns, honey mustard, and suateed onions and peppers. If I'm being totally honest, it didn't look like much when it arrived, but it was dang tasty! There's something about a lightly buttered and toasted potato roll that is just totally irresistible. Pair that with a sweet Italian sausage, some sweet onions & peppers, a tangy honey mustard & some ketchup and you have the perfect bite.
Elephante also makes an absolutely amazing puccia bread with whipped eggplant dip. The puccia bread is incredibly light and fluffy and lightly charred from being cooked in the pizza oven. The whipped eggplant dip is also out of this world. I've never liked eggplant, but I get this dip every time I'm there because it's that good. It's similar to a hummus dip, but even lighter, fluffier and creamier. Since we were missing it, I tried to recreate both the puccia bread and the eggplant dip and it was an epic fail. You can't get the fluffiness and char of the puccia bread in a regular oven because it doesn't get hot enough. Since pizza ovens get up to 800 degrees and a normal oven usually only goes up to 500, you can't recreate this bread at home. It's disappointing, but it's also a great reason to support one of our favorite local businesses.
Elephante has a great selection of dishes and they've been doing specials every week, so there's always something new. They also have great cocktails that they're selling to go, about 3-4 cocktails for $25.
Oh, and Elephante has an amazing vibe and view. We can't wait until we can go back in person, but for the time being, I guess this will have to do!
