Bella's 6th Birthday & Pupcake Recipe

I can't believe my baby girl turns 6 years old today.  They grow up so fast!  We had a great time celebrating her birthday this weekend with a day at the park, LOTS of new tennis balls, and of course homemade pupcakes.  Bella absolutely loves peanut butter, but I'm honestly not sure if she enjoyed the pupcake or the tennis balls more.  I looked into quite a few different recipes before settling on this one because this one seemed like the most natural for a dog's regular diet.  They're also really easy to make and the recipe only makes 6 cakes.  It was important to me that we didn't make too many pupcakes because our girl has been on a diet recently.  She went to the vet last week for a check up and they said that she was 80 pounds, which was a little heavy for her size.  So yes, she's on a diet, but of course we had to make pupcakes for her birthday.

We also got her this beautiful birthday bandanna off Etsy and everyone at the park wished her a happy birthday.  That smile is a post-park happy birthday girl.

Here she is not so patiently waiting for us to sing her happy birthday so she can eat her pupcake. (Don't worry, I blew out the candles before giving it to her)

Pupcake Recipe

Total Time: 25-30 minutes
Servings: 6

Ingredients:
1 cup flour
1/4 cup pawnut butter (or unsalted peanut butter)
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup shredded carrots
1/3 cup honey
1 egg
1 tsp baking soda

Optional: additional peanut butter for "frosting"

Instructions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Combine the ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Scoop dough into 6 greased muffin tins and bake for 20-25 minutes, until the tops are golden brown.
  4. Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before frosting or serving.
Since Bella loves peanut butter so much, we've started buying her Pawnut Butter from the pet food store.  It's peanut butter that's made for dogs, so it's way better for them than giving them people peanut butter.  If your dog likes peanut butter too, I would highly recommend buying some Pawnut Butter for them.  Your pup will thank you for it!

Here are the pupcakes before the frosting process.  They pretty much just look like carrot cake muffins.

The final product, frosted with more Pawnut butter!

I hope your pups enjoy these pupcakes as much as our girl did!
