Father's Office

4 out of 5 stars

This small gastropub is a place that everyone in Los Angeles has to visit at least once.  Only stop in if you're 21 though, they check IDs at the door!

I've been to Father's Office a few times and have always enjoyed the food and beer.  If you go early enough, the lights will still be on and you'll have your selection of tables.  It fills up quickly though, so don't be surprised if you have to wait by the bar for a little while before finding a table.  While you're waiting by the bar (or at your table), browse over the extensive list of beers both on the menu and on the specials list.  If you're having trouble deciding, the bartenders have great advice and can pick the perfect beer for your preferences.

If you're craving a small snack, the sweet potato fries with bleu cheese and garlic dipping sauce is to die for.  I would eat the dipping sauce with a spoon if it wouldn't attract strange glances.

If you want something a little more substantial, the office burger is phenomenal.  Unlike any other burger I've had, the Office Burger has caramelized onions mixed in with the meat patty.  This burger doesn't need any ketchup, the sweetness of the onions mixed with the lightly salty beef creates a perfect combination of flavor.

Father's Office might seem like it's just a good place for a burger and fries, but if you're feeling adventurous, order the duck and fig salad.  I've had good duck at expensive restaurants, but this was by far the best duck I've ever had.  It was perfectly cooked with crispy yet light skin and a tender, moist interior.  The figs brought an amazing sweetness to the dish that complemented the duck perfectly.  If you like duck or if you're feeling adventurous, I definitely recommend trying this salad.
